Setup an Ignite Server Fastly

HPUX-Ignite-[QuickIgnite]

Setup an Ignite Server Fastly

in 30 min.
  1. Copy the contents of the HP-UX DVDs to a directory on the Ignite server (ie. /ignite/depots/HPUX_B.11.31_Mar2010/core_media)
  2. # mkdir /mnt
    # kcmodule fspd=loaded

    For all DVDs do:
    # mount -F cdfs /path/to/HP-UX_DVD1.iso /mnt
    # swcopy -s /mnt \* @ /ignite/depots/HPUX_B.11.31_Mar2010/core_media
    # umount /mnt

  3. Make a config file for this depot
  4. # make_config -s /ignite/depots/HPUX_B.11.31_Mar2010/core_media -c /var/opt/ignite/data/HP-UX_B.11.31_Mar2010/core_media.conf

  5. Set the correct permisson to the directory containing the config file
  6. # chmod 755 /var/opt/ignite/data/HP-UX_B.11.31_Mar2010

  7. Make an index entry for the configuration
  8. # vi /var/opt/ignite/INDEX
    ...
    cfg "HP-UX B.11.31 March 2010" {
            description "My HP-UX Installation Media"
            "/opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.11.31/config"
            "/opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.11.31/hw_patches_cfg"
            "/var/opt/ignite/data/config.local"
            "/var/opt/ignite/data/HP-UX_B.11.31_Mar2010/core_media.conf"
    } = TRUE

  9. Setup the Ignite servers default values
  10. # /opt/ignite/lbin/setup_server -n

  11. Enable tftp and bootpd
  12. # vi /etc/inetd.conf
    ...
    tftp dgram udp wait root /usr/lbin/tftpd tftpd \
            /opt/ignite\
            /var/opt/ignite
    bootps dgram udp wait root /usr/lbin/bootpd bootpd -d 3
    ...

  13. Reread inetd config
  14. # inetd -c

  15. Configure bootp
  16. # vi /etc/bootptab
    default:\
            hn:\
            ds=6x.2.4x.x 6x.x.4x.x:\
            bf=/opt/ignite/boot/nbp.efi:\
            sm=255.255.250.240:\
            gw=2xx.4x.1xx.1xx:\
            sa=2xx.4x.1xx.1xx:
    host1:ht=ether:ha=3A77870D6AC1:ip=2xx.4x.1xx.1xx:tc=default:
    host2:ht=ether:ha=7AA96B8C4585:ip=2xx.4x.1xx.1xx:tc=default:
    host3:ht=ether:ha=8EBF7BE8A25E:ip=2xx.4x.1xx.1xx:tc=default:

  17. Configure dhcp
  18. # vi /etc/dhcptab
    DHCP_POOL_GROUP:\
        ba:\
        bp=2xx.4x.1xx.1xx:\
        sm=255.255.255.240:\
        bf=/opt/ignite/boot/nbp.efi:\
        dn=domain.ch:\
        ds=6x.x.4x.x 6x.x.4x.x:\
        ns=6x.x.4x.x 6x.x.4x.x:\
        gw=2xx.4x.1xx.1xx:\
        sa=2xx.4x.1xx.1xx:\
        pool-name=pool:\
        subnet-mask=255.255.255.240:\
        addr-pool-start-address=2xx.4x.1xx.1xx:\
        addr-pool-last-address=2xx.4x.1xx.1xx:\
        allow-bootp-clients=TRUE:

    Where
    • bf Bootfile.
    • bs Bootfile size. This can be:
      • a decimal, octal, or hexadecimal integer (specifying the size of the bootfile in 512-octet blocks) or
      • the keyword auto, which causes the server to automatically calculate the bootfile size at each request.
    If bs is specified as a boolean, auto is assumed.
    • bp Bootp server address.
    • cs Cookie server address list (a whitespace-separated list of IP addresses).
    • ds Domain name server address list (a whitespace-separated list of IP addresses).
    • gw Gateway address list (a whitespace-separated list of IP addresses).
    • ha Host hardware address. This must be specified in hexadecimal (optional periods and/or a leading 0x may be included for readability). The ha tag must follow the ht tag (either explicitly or implicitly; see tc below).
    • hd Bootfile home directory.
    • hn Send hostname. This is strictly a boolean tag;
    • im Impress server address list (a whitespace-separated list of IP addresses).
    • ip Host IP address (a single IP address).
    • lg Log server address list (a whitespace-separated list of IP addresses).
    • lp LPR server address list (a whitespace-separated list of IP addresses).
    • ns IEN-116 name server address list (a whitespace-separated list of IP addresses).
    • rl Resource location protocol server address list (a whitespace-separated list of IP addresses).
    • sa TFTP server address the client should use (useful with multi-homed servers). This tag takes a whitespace-separated list of IP addresses.
    • sm Host subnet mask (a single IP address).
    • tc Table continuation (points to similar “template” host entry).
    • td TFTP root directory used by secured TFTP server.
    • to Time offset. This can be:
      • a signed decimal integer specifying the client's timezone offset (in seconds from UTC) or
      • the keyword auto, which uses the server's timezone offset.
    • ts Time server address list (a whitespace-separated list of IP addresses).
    • vm Vendor magic cookie selector. This can be one of the following keywords:
      • auto (indicating that vendor information is determined by the client's request)
      • rfc1048 (which always forces an RFC 1048-style reply)
      • cmu (which always forces a CMU-style reply).
  19. Check the default values of the Ignite installation
  20. # instl_adm
    ...
    server="2xx.4x.1xx.1xx"
    netmask[]="255.255.255.240"
    route_gateway[0]="2xx.4x.1xx.1xx"
    route_destination[0]="default"
    sd_server="2xx.4x.1xx.1xx"
    ...

  21. Change them if necessary
  22. # instl_adm -s 2xx.4x.1xx.1xx -m 255.255.255.240 -g 2xx.4x.1xx.1xx -t 2xx.4x.1xx.1xx

    Where
    • -s SD_server[:depot] Will cause SD_server to be the default SD server and depot to be the default depot directory
    • -m netmask Causes netmask to be the default netmask
    • -g default-gateway Causes gateway to be the default gateway or router to use during the installation
    • -t install_server Causes install_server to be the default system to use to obtain additional commands and info during the installation
