To Run Ignite-UX from the Server to Install the Client:
[NOTE: This is done when the Client already has an OS.]

This method must be used if installing a Client on a subnet different from that of the Server.  Otherwise, installing from the Client would require a "boot-helper" system to help it boot across a gateway.  For this reason, running Ignite-UX from the Server will be the primary method for installing Clients.

The Ignite-UX Server is tl-hp08.

  1. On the Ignite Server (tl-hp08), be sure the IP address of the Client is added to ignite:

bulletSet your DISPLAY variable.
bulletRun "/opt/ignite/bin/ignite" and once the GUI comes up, select "Server Setup" and then "Next" at the "Server Setup: Overview".
bulletSelect "Next" at the "Server Setup: IP Addresses".
bulletAdd the server IP address on the "Configure Booting IP Addresses" window.
[NOTE: Another way to do this is to go into "Options" on the ignite menu --> "Server Configuration" ==> "Configure Booting IP addresses".]
bulletAfter adding the client's IP address, skip the DHCP setup and the Depot Configuration.   Then select "Finish"
  1. While still in ignite, select "Actions" and then "Boot Client". Enter the hostname of the Client being installed and the release that you want to install. The default is to match what the client has installed.
[NOTE: This is the same as doing a "bootsys".]
  2. You may see the message:
"The command '/opt/ignite/bin/bootsys -wv [client hostname] 2>/var/tmp/aaaa04020' will be used to reboot [client hostname].  Would you like to proceed?"
    Answer "Y".
  3. You may see a message:
"target system is not allowing root remsh access by you....Would you like bootsys to set the .rhosts file on that system?"
Answer "Y".  You'll need to enter the server's root password.
  4. You should see a notice saying "reboot was successful....".  Select "ok".
[Also during the reboot, it may state it can't read /var/opt/ignite/INDEX from the install tftp server.... a new client was found.  Select "ok".]
  5. After the Client boots, an icon for the Client is displayed on ignite's workspace.  Highlight the Icon, select Action --> InstallClient --> New Install.
  6. A "welcome" screen will appear, in which you'll need to enter the customer name (peoplesoft), serial number of server, and order number.
  7. Under the "Basic" tab, be sure to check "Configurations".   You should select either "HP-UX B.11.23  DSI" (Enterprise OE), "HP-UX B.11.11  DSI" or "HP-UX B.11.00  DSI" depending on the OS version to be installed.  Under "Additional", DHCP should be disabled and the _hp_lanadmin_args should be "-S 1" to change the network to 100 Full Duplex during installation.
  8. Under the "Software" tab, be sure the required network software is marked.  If the Client Server has a HP-PB network card (as many K-Class servers do), be sure that software is marked (there have been problems with it not being automatically installed).   The software is "HP-PB 100BaseT-01".

Other software which should probably be selected (for HPUX 11.11):
bulletDsiApps11i
bulletBasic_Kernel_Mods
bulletGOLDAPPs11i
bulletGOLDBase11i
bulletGeneral Patches
bullet[Network software required]

Note: For HPUX 11.23, just install the default software selections (which should include Auxiliary Opt).

  1. Under the "System" tab, verify the IP address of the client. Also check the "Network Services" for the correct gateway address, dns entry and xntp server.

There may also be an "Additional Interfaces" button if there multiple network interface cards.  If so, select it and be sure the lan card you're using is selected as primary interface, with the correct IP address associated with it.
  2. Under the "File System" tab, be sure to change /pswork to /ds1 if this is a non-RT server.  Also check other filesystem sizes to see if anything needs changing.

Note: For HPUX 11.23, minimum filesystem sizes should be:
        /            512 MB
swap     8192 MB (but depends on how much memory the box has)
        /stand    512 MB
        /tmp      1024 MB
        /var       1024 MB
        /opt       3000 MB
        /usr        4000 MB
/home    30 MB (or whatever is the default)

  3. Under the "Advanced" tab, move scripts you wish to run from "Available Scripts" to the "Scripts to be Executed" workspace.
  4. Then select "Go" to start the installation.
  5. Once the Client installation is done, remove the Client's hostname from the Ignite Server's /.rhosts file.
  6. Go back into ignite and remove the Client's IP address from the list.
  7. Also be sure to remove the Client's icon from the ignite workspace.
  8. After the installation, you may need to add the network router to the Client Server.  [Ignite may get confused if the Client is on a different subnet or has 2 network cards.]
Also be sure network interface is set to 100 Full Duplex (for HPUX 11.0 and 11.11).  For HPUX 11.23, the interface should be set to autonegotiate.

To Run Ignite-UX from the Client:
[NOTE: This is done when the Client doesn't have an OS.]

  1. At the Client's ISL prompt, enter "boot lan.<IP address of Server> install"
  2. For "Interact with IPL (Y, N, or Cancel)?", answer N.
  3. On the Client, select "HPUX Install".
  4. Select "Remote graphical interface running on Ignite-UX Server".
  5. Wait for DHCP to run.
  6. Enter "Network Configuration" screen information.

Logs are located at: /var/opt/ignite/clients/<Client hostname>
