HP-UX 11.31 Samba Share Steps

Configuration of SAMBA Share on HP-UX is a simple task. Follow few steps and enjoy sharing between HP-UX and windows. 

1. Create OS level user on server
2. Add those users to samba database
3. Set parameter in smb.conf file
4. Restart SAMBA Service and Check status of SAMBA share
5. Start Sharing 

1.         Create OS level user on server 

Create OS level user, directory and change owner of shared directory to SAMBA user

# useradd ashish

# grep ashish /etc/passwd

ashish:x:111:20::/home/ashish:/sbin/sh 

# mkdir /home/ashish

# chown ashish:users /home/ashish

# ls -lte /home/ashish

drwxr-x—   2 ashish     users           96 Oct 25 11:12 ashish

2.         Add those users to samba database

# /opt/samba/bin/smbpasswd -a ashish

New SMB password:

Retype new SMB password:

Added user ashish.

3.         Set parameter in smb.conf file

 Set Security parameter in smb.conf  

[global]

security=User

Add share directory parameter in the last of file /etc/opt/samba/smb.conf

[ashish_share]

comment = Public Share

path = /home/ashish

public = yes

only guest = yes

writable = yes

printable = no

4.         Restart SAMBA Service and Check status of SAMBA share

# /sbin/init.d/samba start

# /opt/samba/bin/testpa

Load smb config files from /etc/opt/samba/smb.conf

Processing section “[homes]“

Processing section “[tmp]“

Processing section “[ashish_share]“

Loaded services file OK.

Processing comments in /etc/opt/samba/smb.conf

This is normal if an SMB client has never connected to your server.
